The difference between a bar player and a competitor is technique. Here are the shots and systems that win games — start at the top and work down.
Shot library
The classic first “real” shot. Set the ball on your 3-bar middle man, pull the rod toward you and strike in one motion. Learn to hit the near hole, the middle, and the far hole so the goalie can never sit on one spot.
The pull’s mirror twin — the same idea moving away from you. Many players pair a strong pull with a push threat just to keep defenses honest.
The modern power shot. Pin the ball under the middle man’s toe, then roll your wrist over the handle to whip the man through a near-360 legal arc. Huge speed, huge lateral range — and the shot you’ll see win open events.
Strike the ball off the wall and into the goal, usually from defense. Angles are everything — which is exactly what our simulator was built to teach.
Rapid side-to-side passing between men on the same rod to pull defenders out of position before the strike. Control drill and weapon in one.
From the back rods: catch, control, and either clear danger or go on offense. A 2-bar that can shoot is worth points every game.
Systems
Advanced games are won on the 5-bar. Learn the brush pass — ball moving along the wall, brushed up to your 3-bar — plus a lane option, and you’ll out-possess players with flashier shots.
Defense is pattern recognition: watch the shooter’s setup position, count their timing, and take away their favorite hole first. Make everyone beat you with their second-best shot.
Good defense isn’t static. Show a hole, take it away on the shooter’s trigger, and rotate your looks so no shot is ever “open” twice in a row.
